Luxembourg, a cosmopolitan city with the highest economic growth that has nonetheless retained a human face. The Mercier study considers it the world’s safest city and Unesco has designated the old town and fortress a world heritage site.
The area around Luxembourg is characterized by extensive, protected woodland (Grünewald, Baumbusch) with exclusive golf courses close by (Junglinster, Luxembourg). The orchard and granary of the capital city is favoured recreational area. “Pidal” in Walferdange, “Les Thermes” in Strassen or “Krounebierg” in Mersch offer wellness with extensive sauna facilities.
The neat little town of Mersch, in the geographic centre of the country, forms the starting point for voyages of discovery into the Valley of the Seven Castles, including stout fortresses, the proud Renaissance castle of Ansemburg with its superb parc or Koerich, a castle built in the water. It boards a Gallo-Roman Villa and captivates with its wealth of 18th century architecture.
The village of Useldingen and its fortress, presented with the Europa Nostra Award in recognition of its valuable agricultural heritage, lies just a stone's throw away.

Presenting a low mountain range: a superb natural landscape with lakes and cosy little towns like Clervaux, Diekirch, Ettelbruck, Vianden and Wiltz. Two nature reserves and a UNESCO world culture heritage, the photograph exhibition “The Family of Man”, are among the highlights of this region.
This rugged landscape, where steep rocky slopes alternate with wide plateaus, is dotted with medieval fortresses built on rock peaks to guard the paths through the valleys below. Bourscheid Castle has one of the finest and best preserved defensive systems in Europe. Vianden is the largest medieval castle this side of the Rhine. The fortress of Esch-Sauer stands in splendour, watching over the romantic little town of the same name nestling along the winding banks of the Sauer. Modern artistic gardens in Bilsdorf, Clervaux, Troisvierges, Merscheid or Wiltz combine human artistic creations with a charming, unspoiled landscape.

Most appealing of all are the vintage quality Mosel wines. Best when accompanying fried fish in one of the renowned restaurants along the picturesque wine village route.
The Romans saw it as an unrestricted region covered with vines, influenced by the meanderings of the Moselle. Here, with its inter-connecting bridges, you will find the birthplace of the ”Schengener Raum”.
